Pseudonymisation

In short and in plain language

Pseudonymisation means swapping names and similar data for codes.

Without a key that is kept apart, no one can tell who is meant.

For whoever holds the key, it still counts as data about people. But the risk is lower, for example in logs.

Definition
Pseudonymisation means changing personal data so that it can no longer be linked to a person without additional information kept separately. For the controller who holds the additional information, pseudonymised data remains personal data under the GDPR. The measure can lower the risk, for example in logs or test data.
